Winter 2009 Newsletter: From the President
By Maureen Lein
Happy New Year Farmington residents!! 2008 was certainly a rough economic year, hopefully not all of you were affected, but with the statistics, more than likely you were. Thankfully we have such a strong community bond within our neighborhood that if you needed to reach out for some help you found a friendly neighbor who was there for you.
I want to thank all of the Farmington Association members for their hard work and dedication this year which made all of our events a big success. Unfortunately, we are still seeing low numbers in some areas and hope this year we will be seeing more of you around. It has been said that with our economy the way it is, Americans are going back to the days when friends and neighbors stayed close to home, played games and shared good times. Maybe that is what will bring more of you out to neighborhood events.
As you will see in our calendar and on our website (www.farmingtonha.com) we are bringing back some events that have been missing for a couple of years as well as events we just began last year. For instance, Farmington will be bringing back a “Block Party” which entails bringing your own side dishes, chairs and drinks, games for the kids, and socializing with neighbors in the street. Our Adult Social committee will be bringing back a couple of golf events and we are looking for a new children?s Christmas event, all exciting things!
As you know, hosting these events takes a lot of time, energy and patience, so we are always looking for volunteers to help out. You don’t have to have a marketing degree or be very outgoing, and even if you are pressed for time, there are small jobs that don?t require much. We do need more help so please let us know if you are willing to donate some of your time. With that being said, we want to say thank you and goodbye to two committee members who have been a big part of our association for many, many years. Cheri Feightner, who was our Block Captain Coordinator for the north end of Farmington, has decided to take a break from her position, and Jennie Amato will be taking over for her. Christine Collins has headed up the Children?s Social Committee for several years and she will also be stepping down, so Barb Bechtel will be taking over that role. We want to thank both Cheri and Christine for all of their hard work and dedication and we look forward to the new committee chairs.
Thank you Farmington for welcoming me as your new President, I have enjoyed every minute and cannot wait to get to know more of you. Have a great New Year!
