On August 15th, we had a very exciting night as 15 couples endured both physical and mental challenges to see who could outwit, outplay, outlast and out party their Farmington neighbors to determine who was the True Survivor for Deck Crawl 2009.

We started by dividing the couples into two groups: The Cassin Crusaders and the Arlington Allies. After the teams received their buffs and their torches, Jeff Probst advised that after each challenge, the victorious team would win an idol, which we affectionately called “MO’s”. (Jennifer Ramey did a great job designing these idols). The team with the most MO’s would go on to participate in the Final Individual Challenge, while the losing team would have to organize and host Deck Crawl 2010!

Apparently, this really motivated the Cassin Crusaders, who stormed to a 3-0 lead by winning all the challenges that Terry and Kristine Thornton created. However, the Arlington Allies would not give up that easily. The rally started when Mike Borella found the Hidden Idol while the teams moved to the 2nd Deck at Sam and Jennifer Ramey’s house. The Arlington Allies continued their charge by winning the next two challenges, forcing a Winner-Take-All Final Challenge. The competition was fierce, but the Arlington Allies would not be denied victory. The final score was 4 MO’s to 3, and with that the Cassin Crusaders’ flame was extinguished. At the Final Deck hosted by Steve and Sharon Hasa, the Deck Crawl was changed from a team challenge to an individual challenge. Each participant was given a log to stand on, and the winner would be whoever had enough balance and endurance to outlast his/her neighbor. After roughly 10-15 minutes, the winner and True Survivor for Deck Crawl 2009 was Julie Havemann. Julie won a $50 Downtown Naperville Gift Certificate as well as a medallion hand-crafted by Sharon Hasa.

Thanks to all of you who participated, as well as our hosts. Also, congratulations to Julie Havemann! But most of all, we look forward to the announcement of the details regarding Deck Crawl 2010 by the Cassin Crusaders. (We know who you are and we know where you live!!)
